april 2013: things i love.

Guys. How is April almost over already? These are a few of the things I can’t get enough of right now.

Basic bitches

This Thought Catalog post was written late last year, but thanks to a friend of mine, it has become a part of my world and it’s incredible. OMG, goat cheese!

Kate Spade New York: Spring 2013

These guys can do no wrong. Kate Spade’s new collection is a girly girl’s dream, filled with florals and playful quotes and baubles that epitomize their “Live Colorfully” mantra.

Ed Sheeran

Okay, so maybe the only reason I know about this kid is because he’s currently touring with Taylor Swift, but that’s really the only endorsement I need. He’s incredibly talented, has a British accent and sang this cover of “Be My Husband” during their Newark stop. Obsessed.

This text message, courtesy of Siri

We’ve seen things like Damn You Autocorrect, but this text that a co-worker of mine shared takes the cake. The liberties Siri took with whatever she was trying to say are truly awe-inspiring, and the response to it, filled with genuine concern, makes me laugh-cry every time.

Sam Lansky’s Twitter feed

This guy has written for New York Magazine, The Atlantic, MTV and more, and it’s easy to see why. His commentary on pop culture and his adventures in dating (or lack thereof) are fantastic. A must-follow for sure.

Shoot as much as you’re able to. Every day, try and go out and take photos of something. Shoot things that challenge you, shoot this that inspire you, shoot with other people and shoot your friends. The only way to learn is to get out and do.

february 2013: things i love.

This post was inspired by the College Prepster, and her favorites series.
A compilation of things I can’t get enough of:

image

House of Cards

Kevin Spacey is positively devilish in this made-for-Netflix series, and the fact that it’s streaming (read: marathon-friendly) means I can indulge whenever I please. I’m on Chapter 8, and can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Lumineers

You guys. This album. It’s the perfect type of music to listen to while you’re at work, and each song is better than the last.

Guacamole

Holy cow, where has this been all my life? I legitimately don’t think I had a scoop of it before moving to New York. Weird, I know. And, yes, I blame all of my fellow Michiganders for keeping this secret from me. It’s like crack, and it doesn’t get any better than the kind they serve at Dos Caminos. I dream about it, and it takes everything I have not to eat it every day.

Warby Parker sunglasses

I know what you’re thinking. You? Warby Parker? It’s true. I have an affinity for them, and I’ve been plotting my next purchase since my Prestons arrived in the mail. The sunnies pictured are the Everett in redwood ash, and I think they’d make quite a fetching addition to my soon-to-be collection.

Greenwich Letterpress

"This is the retail blog by sisters Amy and Beth, owners of Greenwich Letterpress, a shop located on historic Christopher Street in the West Village of NYC." You can catch sneak peeks of their amazing paper products and New York-themed knick-knacks. Did I mention it’s in the West Village?

YouTube videos of goats

Laugh-out-loud, sit-on-the-floor, slap-your-mama hilarious. This particular one, set to Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble,” brought the entire 2U NYC office to a grinding, giggle-filled halt. 30 seconds well spent.

So these are the things that are putting a smile on my face this month. What’s on your list of favorites?

louis c.k. on new york city.

"It’s pretty impossible to describe walking through these city streets in total darkness. It can’t even be called a trip through time, because as long as New York has lived, it’s been lit. By electricity, gas lamps, candlelight, kerosene. But this was pitch black, street after street, corner round corner. And for me, the Village being the very place that made me into a comedian and a man, to walk through the heart of it and feel like, in a way, it was dead. I can’t tell you how that felt. And you also had a palpable sense that inside each dark window was a family or a student or an artist or an old woman living alone, just being in the dark and waiting for the day to come back. Like we were all having one big sleep over, but not so much fun as that." — Louis C.K.

taylor swift's 'red' is another winner.

"You should know that it’s not true what they say, that Swift spends much of her mostly-pretty-great fourth album, ‘Red,’ skewering basset-eyed former flame Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s more like she examines him under a magnifying glass in the sun until he spontaneously combusts, like an ant.”
